Despite the cold, winter is an excellent time for birdwatching in Michigan. There are fewer kinds of birds to see and there aren’t any leaves for the birds to hide behind.

And on a relatively warm winter day, it’s a good way to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends.

What I Found Interesting: January 22, 2025

With deep Arctic cold across the US Midwest and East Coast, blizzards and snowfall along the Gulf Coast in Texas and Louisiana (New Orleans had a record-breaking 10 inches of snow in some parts), the devastating continuing wildfires in California, and the nefandous executive orders by the convicted felon and authoritarian who is now US President, it’s been a challenging week for everyone who cares about the harm and despair people are experiencing.

I’m grateful to everyone sharing positive news and uplifting blog posts.

Remembering Jimmy Carter, 1924-2024

Like many others, I was saddened to read the news of former President Jimmy Carter’s death.

In June 2005, I photographed and published stories for Habitat for Humanity Detroit on their website about the 2005 Jimmy Carter Work Project (now called Carter Work Project) in Detroit.
