How to Sort Your LinkedIn Feed Chronologically

Were you frustrated when LinkedIn’s new redesign was launched and you could no longer view your feed chronologically?

I know I was.

By default, the new LinkedIn design feed displays Top updates, based on the relevancy of each person’s LinkedIn activity.

Why would LinkedIn order my feed so that I see updates from three days ago? Or eight days ago?

Frustrating.

I want to see the latest updates and events from my LinkedIn connections.

I contacted LinkedIn Help on Twitter and asked when they would let users order their feed chronologically again:

And received a quick reply from their support group:

To which I replied:

Yay! Some positive news with their next reply, though no date was given. Glad LinkedIn is listening to their users:

I was still disappointed there was no date for the feature to return, especially when I discovered events I would have attended.

Had I known about the event in time.

I cut back on my LinkedIn usage, frustrated with erratic ordering of updates, six-day-old updates followed by two-hour-old updates followed by four-day-old updates.

Chronological Updates Return to LinkedIn Feed

Last week, I was pleasantly surprised to learn LinkedIn had returned the chronological ordering of the feed.

Great to hear!

On LinkedIn desktop, instead of Top updates you can now order your feed updates by Recent, which will order your updates by date, with newest update at top of the feed.

The Recent setting must be set manually.

How to Sort Your LinkedIn Feed By Date

After you’ve logged into LinkedIn on desktop:

  1. At the top of your LinkedIn feed, look for the Post button in the area where you would add an update
  2. Select the down arrow next to Sort by
  3. Select Recent from the dropdown menu

What Your Need to Know About the LinkedIn Sorting Option

  1. Sorting is only available on desktop; as of July 5, 2017, sorting is not available for the mobile app. Confirmed with LinkedIn Help staff on March 27, 2019.
  2. The Sort by Recent option is not permanent, as of March 20, 2019 on desktop. Even though their help page says the sort will default to Top after a four-hour period of no activity, my setting for Recent has remained.

Conclusion

As a longtime LinkedIn user, I’m glad they listened to their users and brought back the feature to sort the feed by date.

Much easier for me to keep track of what’s happening with my connections and upcoming events.
