If you’re a web professional, you know it’s a challenge to keep your skills up to date, learn about new methods, and network with fellow web workers. And it takes time to find interesting local events.
I’ve taken some of the work off your shoulders with my curated list of metro Detroit web professional and user experience events for October 2014.
It’s impossible to include every event, so if you have any to add to the list, share the event info in the comments.
Let’s talk PHP
For the October PHPDetroit meetup, members will gather together for a casual meeting to discuss the latest PHP developments, emerging technologies, and have a Q & A to discuss issues. Topic & presentation TBD.
Apache, PHP & NetBeans
At the October Walsh College Open Source Community meetup, Eric Hill will show you how to download, install and configure the Apache web server along with the PHP programming language.
He’ll walk you through downloading and installing NetBeans. The session will end with a look at Twitter Bootstrap and how to organize PHP projects.
VaultPress: A plugin for your backup needs
Our Metro Detroit WordPress Meetup group hosts Jackie Stachurski, a Happiness Engineer at Automattic currently working on the VaultPress team. Jackie has experience with both WordPress.com and the self-hosted installation. She’ll talk about VaultPress, what it can do for your site, and compare it to other backup solutions.
